This walks through the whole first-time setup — connecting your wallet, verifying it's really yours, creating your own independent recovery keys, and funding your trading wallet. No experience with self-custody wallets required.
Xaman (formerly Xumm) is a free, self-custody wallet app for the XRP Ledger. "Self-custody" means exactly what it sounds like: only you hold the keys, and no company — including us — can access what's inside. Think of it like a banking app that only works for you, with no bank behind it.
Download Xaman from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Search "Xaman Wallet" and confirm the publisher is XRPL Labs.
Open the app and choose "Create a new account" (not "I already have one," unless you're restoring an existing wallet).
Set a 6-digit passcode and turn on Face ID / fingerprint unlock if offered.
Xaman will show you a recovery phrase for this wallet. Write it down on paper and store it somewhere safe — this is separate from the two recovery keys our app will generate for you later in Step 4.
Already have Xaman set up with some XRP in it? Skip straight to Step 1.
On the app, tap "Connect to Xaman." This opens Xaman — either directly if you're on your phone, or via a QR code you scan with the Xaman app if you're on a computer.
Approving this only shares your public wallet address with the app. It does not move any funds and does not expose any private key.
Connect Xaman to begin.
Next, you'll be asked to approve a one-time "Sign In" request in Xaman. This proves you actually control the wallet you just connected, before anything else can happen.
This step doesn't cost any XRP and doesn't move or expose any funds — it's a signature, not a transaction.
One-time check: sign a Sign In request to prove you own this wallet.
Enter how much XRP you want to allocate as trading margin — the amount the strategy will size its grid against. The minimum is 5 XRP. You can tap MAX to fill in the largest amount your wallet can currently spare.
This isn't sent anywhere yet — you're just setting the number before the next step.
Activating shows you two separate keys, one right after the other, each with its own distinct job later on. They are not interchangeable — mixing them up is the one mistake that can cost you real time in a recovery situation, so this section explains each one clearly.
Neither key is ever sent to us or stored on our servers by default, and we have no way to reconstruct either one if it's lost. Both are also what let you withdraw independently at any time, even if our servers are ever unreachable — treat each one exactly like a hardware wallet's seed phrase:
Xaman opens once more, this time asking you to sign an actual payment — sending the margin amount you chose in Step 3 into your new trading wallet.
This is the only payment you personally sign in the entire setup. Everything else — creating the trading wallet, configuring its multi-key signing setup, and preparing it to hold the trading pair the strategy uses — happens automatically in the background. You don't need to approve, sign, or set up anything else yourself.
After you sign the payment, the app finishes the remaining setup on its own — this usually takes 10 to 20 seconds. You'll see a status line update as it works.
Once setup completes, four tabs appear:
Here's what that actually looks like once you're active:
From here, the strategy runs on its own. You can add more funds anytime from Settings, and withdraw or pause whenever you want — none of that requires repeating this setup.
Yes, for now — the connection flow is built around Xaman's sign-in and signing requests. It's free and available on iOS and Android.
No. Your main wallet only ever signs the Sign In (Step 2) and the one funding payment (Step 5). All trading activity happens in a separate trading wallet created for this purpose — your main wallet is never touched by the strategy itself.
The minimum margin is 5 XRP. Beyond that, it's entirely up to you and how much you're comfortable allocating — start small if you'd rather get comfortable with how it works first.
Yes. Deposit is available anytime from Settings — one signature, same as the original funding payment, and it never interferes with a strategy already in progress.
Yes — your main wallet needs an RLUSD trust line set up first, or the withdrawal won't be able to arrive. This is a general XRP Ledger requirement for holding any token, not something specific to us. If you only ever withdraw XRP, you can skip this. See Step 7 above for how to add it in Xaman.
We have no way to recover either one — this is by design, the same as any self-custody wallet. Losing the "Delete Account" key means you'd lose the ability to fully close the wallet and reclaim its reserve yourself. Losing the "Revert" key means you'd lose the ability to undo the multi-signature setup yourself. Either way, the wallet keeps working normally day-to-day — these keys are only needed for those two specific actions. See the Security section on our homepage and our Terms of Service for the full explanation.
